Off Leash Control

For the owner requiring total control both on and off leash. Very effective for teaching recall.

Can Expedite Learning

Expedites learning for the impulsive, strong willed or physically strong dog that is excessively distracted by the environment and insensitive to correction.

Accident Prevention

Can prevent injury to the dog and/or the owner. Effective to teach mannerly, loose leash walking to prevent dogs tripping up their owners and the ability to recall a dog headed toward a busy street.

The electronic training collar is an effective tool for dogs that don’t respond to more traditional training tools such as a leash and regular collar. Many dogs are not sensitive to physical pressure due to their nature or size. A dog that doesn’t respond to the recall is subject to being hit by a car. A dog that is unruly on the leash can trip up their owner resulting in a fall with the potential for serious injury.

Dogs will need some basic obedience training before introducing the electronic collar. The e-collar is used to enforce the commands the dog is already familiar with. It functions like an electronic leash, an extension of your regular leash. It is important that the dog go through a step by step introduction process, as mistimed corrections can lead to confusion, resulting in fear as opposed to learning. E-collars have variable levels of intensity from very low to high. It takes a session or two to figure what level of stimulation works best for your dog as all dogs respond differently. Most e-collars have a vibrate mode and a sound or tone that some dogs respond to well. Sometimes a combination of modes will work the best. If you want to run your dog off leash in areas where it is allowed and safe, the e-collar is the only tool we have found that works for reliable recall on command. Many dogs have already figured out that you have limited control when they are off leash and have learned to play keep-away. The e-collar is the only practical way to effectively attain long range control.

In the past e-collars were bulky, cumbersome and expensive. Today’s models are compact, inexpensive and are almost unnoticeable on the dog. We have had very good luck with the function and reliability of the Patpet Dog Training Collar available on Amazon for around $50. It is small in size and comes in various colors. Many dogs respond to training very well without the use of an electronic collar, but for the dog that doesn’t it is a most valuable tool and can expedite the training process significantly.

The online “Puppy Orientation” training with Debra was an invaluable experience with my new 10 week old puppy June Bug. She was able to give me so many helpful techniques that worked! We interacted virtually, so Debra could actually see the behaviors that needed correcting. June was a very spirited, determined puppy and I don’t think I could have handled the many problems that came up without Debra’s wisdom. Thank you High Tail.
